Customised or User-friendly Newspapers

Can the newspapers be customized?

For quite sometime, I am trying to get news from Bihar to find out how the new government is performing. Is there any perceptible change coming?

There are some websites that provide exclusive news. However, these are not up to mark for me, and comprehensive enough, as perhaps they are not financially viable business.

All this time, I was thinking why couldn’t national newspapers provide this service. They can always get a pull out of two pages exclusive with Bihar’s news along with my morning paper, at least on demand. There may be many like me who would be hungry for getting news of their states. With Internet and networking between different locations of the publication, it is certainly a possibility. Though as I understand many national newspapers are having Patna edition, but even in their e-paper they don’t have Patna edition. The same is true for people interested in news from other capitals and states. At least in metros with large migrated populations from different states, the national newspapers should provide this customized service, even if necessary at little extra cost.

Another feature of customized newspaper may be putting news of a particular nature in such a pulling out possibility so that one can remove all that one does not want to read. Say, we are living in Noida, we are not interested in reading the detail news of New Delhi City. The news of New Delhi City can always be put on 4 pages in such a manner that it can be pulled out, if I don’t want to read. For example, Hindustan Times gives its ‘HT Sports’ in such a manner that it can be pulled out. I always remove that to reduce the pages to be handled. I am sure this can be followed for other sections, such as Business Times, editorials and lead articles (that I feel like preserving) or City News too, and by all newspapers. The suggestion may be extended to advertisement too, as those the most annoying ones. They always can be clubbed together in pullouts as done for Sunday editions. At least, the e-papers must be without ads.

I wish the media managers will think over this suggestion and customize the newspapers.
