Noida, Metro, and Many Crorepatis

It is not that the news of the possibility of linking Noida by Metro in its network appeared for the first time in media. But it is the first time that it is the top news in the national daily and it has come from a man of the reputation of E Sreedharan who has earned his reputation for completing projects of global quality standard ahead of the schedule time almost always. He deserves to be called the best project manager of the country.

On November 19, 2005, The Time of India reported E Sreedharan, managing director, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation saying, “Metro link to Noida will be included in Phase II and completed by 2010. The exact alignment for Noida has been worked out. For connecting Noida, the Metro will extend its line that touches the Commonwealth Games village by another 7 km. with 6 stations in Sector 15,16,Noida Botanical garden, Golf Course and Noida Sector 32 City Centre along the route.

For one, the property prices are expected to rise. It shall mean many will become owners of properties worth more than a crore thus will mean sudden promotion for many as crorepatis. My wife will be one of those crorepatis, as she owns the house we live in and that will be so near to the Metro terminal at the City Centre. Though it means 5 more years in waiting, it is exciting to wait for a great thing. We had a metro in Kolkata too, but I have not traveled in that even after spending almost major part of my life there. Metro has been in New Delhi too for many years now, but I have never used it. But with Metro coming to City Centre in Sector 32, it will be just at the doorstep. And I shall be certainly using it at to travel once up to CP and some bookshops there, if I remain fit up to that time.

Metro must move faster and cover every nook and corner of New Delhi, so that all the commuters of all levels using different means of transportation use it for its unique convenience and speed, as they use in Tokyo and London, the two that I have extensively used. I wish all the stations developed huge underground market complexes too, so that the maddening crowd moving on streets will go underground. A link between Airports and the center of the city may eliminate the problems created by cab drivers for the tourists coming from the different parts of globe.

Let me wait for enjoying the ride that I shall relish.
