Bush Visit to India: My Wish list

Man Mohan Singh and perhaps the whole of the country except for some hardcore leftists are eagerly awaiting the President’s visit. Bush’s visit to this part of the globe would not have included his Pakistan iteniray. Then, it would have been seen as a visit to show respect to the largest democracy of the world by the most powerful democracy. Why can’t leave behind some old legacy of Dulles’ days? Why US can’t be contemporary in political approaches and strategies? Doesn’t US understand the unrevealed and unsaid but true feelings of the people of India?

Bush as well all Americans must appreciate, understand, and practise the age-old value of Indian philosophy. As the strongest power of the world they must behave more humbly with the rest of humanity without any bias and selfish motives. How can US go on creating the whole of the Islamic world as its enemy?

Coming back to the subject related to India, US must be totally open to the educationists and scientists of India. The same should be offered from India’s side too. US have established a lead in scientific researches and technologies. Input from India can only accelerate that and help it in retaining the lead. So US must help in educating the Indian masses and come out some innovative initiative to do that. It can also assist in the universalizing of healthcare for every India.

India, on its part, must proclaim unilaterally to the whole world community that it will not use its nuclear capability against any country unless attacked also by nuclear weapons. We take pride in this aspect of our history.

I talked and wrote about the visa problems of Indian technocrats working in US, when I was in US. I still feel strongly about. If a student after completing postgraduate degree in US universities is working in some American company for more than three years, he must be automatically given ‘green card’ status. American companies are misutilising this disadvantages of the Indian technocrats in US who are working for long time in permanent jobs but not getting the green card as the company plays the main role. This is highly inhumane. Many don’t get married. Others don’t buy houses. These young people are not getting settled. Should it not be of concern of Americans too? Some of these young men and women must be feeling frustrated and helpless. And under that condition, they can’t perform their best at their work.

I wish Bush could put it right.

P.S Read this story about the denial of visa. Let US and America understand and appreciate the sensibility of intellectual Indians. Mr. Bush and American government must not hurt the sentiments of Indians sometimes by its ambassador and sometimes by its visa officers.
