PM! Why Can’t You Be A Good Manager?

Posted : February 19, 2006 at 11:00 am [IST]

The whole country appreciates your limitations as Prime Minister. You have proven yourself a great applied-economist with your successful policies as Finance Minister in PVR government. Unfortunately, the historians have not given the due credit to the man who was a commoner in Congress to become the PM that survived full five year even with all the troubles of numbers and successfully led the country from bankruptcy to abundance. As you are not the mass leader, as desired in a democracy. You are having a handicap in image building. You are to look to Madam Sonia Gandhi who very carefully and shrewdly managed to put you in the job of PM and became a goddess of sacrifice. The countrymen understand all this, but still respect you for your sincerity, honesty, and knowledge. And this is a great achievement in itself.

The countrymen expect that with all the experiences of many decades you shall project and prove yourself a good manager of the affairs. As a good manager, you must take your key assistants and subordinates in confidence. Some recent incidents have proved otherwise. The statements of the Nuke chief and that of Army against your actions are burning examples. Even under very difficult conditions of sanction from all developed countries, Indian scientists have done excellent jobs in specific areas of satellites, missiles, and nuclear technologies. Their sentiments must be kept into consideration before taking any decision. The whole matter could have been sorted out if some key people of the community including the Nuke chief could have been consulted before framing your nuclear policies, which we, all technocrats, favour.

On the same line, you would have consulted and invited to open up your mind about your intention of minority count with defense chiefs, including the Army. With proper consultations, they would have become party to your decision and they would have not made these unpleasant and undesirable statements. Perhaps, you are getting dependent on your bureaucracy too much and they are to prevail over even in the areas that don’t belong to them.

Please do something so that a commoner does not get a feeling as expressed here in future.
