Some Dangerous Moves

Recently, three moves initiated to get some mean end met, were very painful for me. First was the PMO initiative through some retired judge Rajinder Sachar to find out the number of persons belonging to minorities serving defense forces under a veiled objective to study their socio-economic and educational status. As reported, the army refused to answer queries of the so-called high level committee formed by the PM, though the air force and the navy had send their responses, perhaps without realizing its larger consequences. Was it the brainchild of PM himself or some of his cronies or one planted from the sycophants of ‘Her Highness’? It is unfortunate that the name of so honest and surely intelligent person such as Man Mohan Singh is getting involved. But unfortunately, the damage is already done. The news has got tremendous prominence in print media and on small screens. Some are allowing a debate on the action initiated. The parliament is also going to discuss. What affect it will have on the citizens? I am sure they prove more sensible and mature than our political bosses.

The second move with the same intention appears in the President’s Address to the joint sitting of both houses of parliament. It is the government that writes this address (unfortunately, the President just reads it). But, essentially, it elaborates the foreign and domestic policies of the government for the financial year. Again the address makes a special mention of a 15-point programme that is being prepared by the government to aim at enhancing the social development of the minorities, especially the poor. Is the government working for the redressal of the problems of minorities of all religious believes or only Muslims? The moves intend only to allure Muslims. If they really want to help minorities, they should forgive this practice of special programmes and go to provide all sorts of services such as education and healthcare to all the citizens of the country. Once they wish to especially help the poor persons of the minorities, then poor doesn’t belong to any faith. They are just poor and they must be taken out of that category to get them a respectful position in society. The government and all political parties must stop talking about minorities. The Indians are emotionally timid and love to live in peace helping each other.

The third move is still dangerous. Now the leftists have courted traders too. Unfortunately, the traders in our country have a bad name and they still have not improved. They can adopt all and any means to serve their selfish objectives- and that is only making money. Surprisingly, the traders were till now with BJP. But they have gone disenchanted with it. They are now in contact with CPM and CPI. As reported, AB Bardhan of CPI along with Murli Manohar Joshi and others of BJP and George Fernandes of Janata Dal (United) addressed an association of traders association from the same platform to fight the government bid to bring in FDI in retail. Is not an alliance or conspiracy of convenience? Why should BJP go against the reform that so many of the economists and consultants are advising as sure route to get manufacturing sector grow faster for India without affecting any domestic players? All those people are not on the payment roll of the multi-nationals to advise wrongly, as the politicians are being proved time and again. The experiences of many countries including China are with us to keep as benchmark. Further, the government can always incorporate certain conditions in national interest binding for MNCs in retail.

Do you share my concerns? If you do have some, please be vocal and talk against it.
