Arrogant Antulay

I was very happy these days, as I was finding a clearly changed mood of minority in India. Media had many news reports to enthuse me with hope. Muslim religious leaders expressed their unwillingness to allow burying Pakistani terrorists of Mumbai massacre on Indian soil. They also decided to put on black ribbon band on Bakr-Eid. Some even announced to skip cow slaughter during the festival. And the best news reports are pouring from Jammu and Kashmir. The people there are participating in record number in the assembly election even after the threats from terrorists and secessionists.
The irresponsible statement about the Hindutva conspiracy in the murder of Hemant Karkare, the police officer who was investigating the Malegaon blasts from AR Antulay came as shock. I used to consider Antulay as the modern face of the minority community. Antulay has been Sonia’s man. Was it one of his usual loose talks? Can his statement be one diverse view, a healthy reflection of a democratic culture? But why should Antulay and the country forget that he is cabinet minister? How can he be so irresponsible and to me, arrogant to keep on confusing the nation with such statement that helped Pakistan in diverting the pressure on it? Perhaps, Antulay knew well that his minority identification will keep him unscathed even after any damage he does to the interest of India. The action of Congress Party and its government proved its preference to keep the minority happy in the election year by not taking any stern action or making him resign. Instead some in Congress and some more such as self-proclaimed King makers Lalu and Rambilash came to Antulay’s rescue. How long the country men go on tolerating these politicians that are anti-national? The worst was the way all the minority parliamentarians grouped behind Antulay. Are the minority politicians not worse than the religious leaders whom the country keeps on blaming? I end with a happy note that at least intellectual such as Saban Azami and MK Akbar were forthright in expressing their views against the politician such as Antulay.
Why has been it necessary for Antulay to wait for Mr. Chidamaram say, “The investigators have reached the conclusion that there is no truth whatsoever in the suspicion that there was a conspiracy to eliminate Shri Karkare or others.”? Why Antulay couldn’t have walked to Chidamaram’schamber and got his clarification instead of creating so much heartburning in minds of the whole India by his irresponsible statement? And should I not blame Antulay and his followers that make people like Bal Thackray to come out with statement that must not go unpunished? Let me assure that very soon one day, if the government doesn’t punish them, the people will certainly do that, if the India is to survive and become a power.
Let the politicians understand that the people will not tolerate their irresponsible loose talk any more. Minority in the country but for some unscrupulous politicians and narrow minded individuals is always with the idea of India first. Let India emerge stronger from this unprecedented national mishap and anger from the agony it created.
