Mayawati has set notions. Success has come cheap to her. What can be a bigger achievement than becoming chief minister of the largest state of the country again and again? And her political success has come with all the materialistic gains- a lot of easily obtained wealth in cash and kinds- diamonds, palatial residential houses, and all lifestyle accessories. She would have gone more mature and become more humble. Instead Mayawati has become more offensive, and to a great extent brute revengeful with all those in opposition. Perhaps that was the reason for her NSA for Varun, and her repeat disregards for the highest judiciary’s orders.

Mayawati primarily wishes to be empress or goddess, and not a leader of downtrodden masses though she may claim that. She wants to rule by creating fear in every one, who works for her, be he or she a government officer, an educationist, or her own party’s leader. Unfortunately, Mayawati have not been able to get a group of good advisors around her, neither has she inducted persons with outstanding performance records in her party.

And because of the political necessity of the era of alliances, none in other political parties wants to annoy her. The country’s administrative and judiciary system also failed to curb her ambition to amass wealth. She legally holds assets worth around Rs 52 crore or more. Mayawati hardly bothered about Taj corridor case, or the disproportionate asset case. Corruption has become the way of life for her. She may charge a huge fee for allotting her party ticket to an aspiring candidate. She may keep on receiving the birthday gifts of all kinds. Some of her candidates in the recent election were the richest and not from the deprived class. Her grand plans for building memorials for Ambedkar and Kanshi at huge cost will hardly serve millions of the deprived going hungry every night. There is none to stop her from doing all these.

And in the process Mayawati daringly crosses all the limits. As reported, Mayawati called Mahatma, the Father of the Nation a “natakbaaz”. She has gone blind with the shine of diamonds she possesses. It doesn’t hurt Mahatma but it hurts many millions of people including Indians as well as non-Indians. I wish she spares Gandhi and Ram.

I wish and appeal her to focus on some of the unique development projects, be it Ganga and Yamuna Expressways, or the development of the religious towns of Vrindavan, Mathura and Varanasi, that she has initiated instead of going for all the gimmicks to please her vote banks. Mayawati can create a record by completing these projects, she can win the next election. She must look around and see the repeat wins in different states. It can come now only with development reaching the aam aadami. If Lalu couldn’t last, she will also not. Can Mayawati concentrate on UP and sort out its basic problems of poverty, illiteracy, and sickness that brands today UP.

But will Mayawati listen?
