Between Two Khans

Two major movies of the two most popular Khans of Bollywood are creating records of revenue. We went to watch Shah Rukh movie today. Perhaps my expectation was a little too much. However, it was the Shah Rukh’s acting that impressed me for the first time. Kajol even after years of gap is also impressive. Shah Rukh has selected an issue that has been very popular in US, and particularly with the people of the subcontinent. That was the issue that made Obama win the Presidential election. Muslims have really suffered humiliation even in so liberal a society of America.
According to media reports, Shah Rukh’s movie ‘My Name is Khan’ is catching fast the record earning of Amir’s ‘Three Idiots’. And the reason perhaps must be the nice handling of the discriminatory policy of Bush Administration. Perhaps all the immigrants of the subcontinent loved to see their superhero raising all the issues they wished to see in US.
I don’t know if even after all the wonderful marketing, Shah Rukh’s movie will run as successfully as Amir’s ‘Three Idiots’ in India. Even the controversy emanated from the loud mouthing of the so-called leaders of ‘Marathi manoos’ perhaps, will not help the movie to go for a long run. The movie is pretty serious for those who go to watch a movie to get some entertainment too. And Amir’s movie ranks much higher on that.
I missed to see the crowd in the hall in multiplex SPICE, Noida today for Shah Rukh’s movie that I expected.
Amir’s ‘Three Idiots’ highlighted a very pertinent issues about the way the government, educational institutes, teachers, and even parents should consider and carry out the task of educating the next generation of the country.
I strongly recommend all the educational institutes to screen the ‘Three Idiots’ for all the teachers and students. It started with IITians demanding the screening that I liked. I don’t know if the same demand will come from students for Shah Rukh’s movie too.
But Shah Rukh is certainly more popular if I go by Google’s number of entries with “Amir’s Three Idiots”, and Shah Rukh’s “My Name is Khan”.
I can’t but mention here that I enjoyed Amitabh’s ‘Rann’ better than Shah Rukh’s ‘My Name is Khan’.
