Shocking and Now Shameful

Rahul Raj from Bihar, who brandished a gun in a bus, was shot dead by the police. Dharmadeo Rai from Uttar Pradesh was lynched to death in a train reportedly because he was a North Indian. And it seems police in the metro is as ineffective and polarized as the government is.
Though I am in US these days, but I was shocked and now tortured with whatever is happening in Maharashtra and for that matter in India.
And Sonia’s Congress and Sarad Pawar’s men running Maharashtra don’t wish to act to avoid annoying Maharashtrians. Rajdeep Sardesai of CNN-IBN has rightly written an open letter to Raj. ‘A larger-than-life Raj Thackeray suits the ruling arrangement in the state because it could erode its principal rival, the Shiv Sena’s support base.’
Recently many through media have tried to talk in impartial manner. Sudhanshu Ranjan reminded about the glorious past of Bihar to Indians: “Pataliputra had been the capital of India for nearly a thousand years and the history of Pataliputra was the history of India.” Sardesai tried to convince what Maharashtra stands for: “Maharashtra we are all proud off was inspired by the progressive ideals of the Bhakti movement, by a Shahu-Phule-Ambedkar legacy of social reform. Are we going to dismantle that legacy under the weight of hate politics?”
Unfortunately the politicians from Bihar are still trying to cash on the situation for the forthcoming election. The worst is the Lalu’s call to all the legislators of Bihar including Nitish Kumar and Rabri Devi to resign. If he thinks so strongly, he would have asked Sonia Gandhi to choose between a stern and immediate action by her government in Maharashtra or his resignation. Raj can be tamed only with a no-nonsense policy for all who attempts to weaken the nation’s integrity. Indianess is above all identity. All Indians including politicians must understand that, be it Advani, RSS, Maoists, Karunanidhi, or any individual or institution.
Lalu would have gone by his promise to have his Chhath in Mumbai. Why did he not do that, when he had so vocally proclaimed that? What was wrong in that? I can perform it in Delhi, Mumbai or Chennai unless Karunanidhi comes out with some funny mandate such as one he so mindlessly did about putting tilak. Can India survive with the leaderships of Raj, Bal, and Karunanidhi? India must learn from the historic election when Americans created history by electing Obama a black American with Muslim connection too as President of USA.
Unfortunately, Bihar’s owes are different. It is because of the total negligence of its political leaderships over last five decades. And even today, the common people are getting shortchanged by the politicians under different pretexts. Why should the state and centre keep on fighting in implementing Bharat Nirman, or NREG? Why can’t the cabinet accommodate some effective technocrats, administrators and managers? Why can’t each DM and SP of each district with all their contacts and influences be told to take a lead in getting a good school built in every block?
The people of Bihar are the victims of the history. The trio and their political predecessors are the criminal culprits who are behind this condition of Bihar and its people. They divided the people in the name of caste and community. They kept them ignorant and uneducated for their vested interests.
The other day I got a call from an acquaintance from Newberys who narrated how some NRI got frustrated and gave up his endeavour of setting up hotels in Bihar. Unless the middle class in Bihar comes out of its cocoon of caste and corruption, the people from Bihar will go on getting humiliated. Further, the parents of Bihar will have to build values in their siblings and must not encourage them to follow the examples of the political goons of the state. I find a total deterioration of the values in the society. Parents don’t playing a role at all. If I go by the narrations of my sons who studied in different engineering colleges of India, the students from Bihar are invariably trouble makers and try to show off more as goons rather than good students. Surprisingly, it all happens because of few black sheep against whom no one can stand.

Resign politics should give way to Rejuvenate Bihar politics. Unfortunately that is difficult thing to do!

from patnadaily.com
For the first time since my relation with PatnaDaily, I am fully in agreement with your thoughts.
May seem funny, but yeah, it’s true. Going places and blaming the rest of the world for the misery of Bihar would be the least we should expect from our own Bihari friends. I mean, there are millions of people of one part of India working at other parts and they have their own share of worries, frustrations, partialities, hostilities. Like Mumbai is over crowded by the Reddies of Andhra Pradesh, Gujaratis and Punjabis. Never heard of anyone of those communities taking a gun in public and threatening common people out on the streets no matter whatever is the cause.
It’s a matter to think out, why only a Bihari got the guts to flash a gun in open public places. The basic reason is our own state of affairs. Everyone of Bihar knows how easy it is to find a gun or a bomb in Bihar. I have spent my entire childhood and teen age in Bihar and have seen the conduct here. In fact, we were forced by our parents to get locked inside our home at all festive occasions except Chhath, because everyone on the street would be drunk fully, would be flashing something which would easily threaten others. If anyone has the guts, come to Patna streets and just stop a boy from doing something nonsense. He would start with a filthy gaali and when resisted, would definitely bring out something which would lead to bad consequences. I think this was the basic culture of being heroic present in Bihar which prompted Rahul to go out and do the bad thing.
Further, has anyone who travels a lot outside Bihar by train, noticed that the trains which are running on time all across get delayed after entering Bihar? Has anyone heard about train robberies and molestation cases so common in any other part of India except Bihar? Think about those outsiders, who are traveling through Bihar, what impression they carry while going back, rude, undisciplined and dangerous?
Let’s get to security aspect. Can we imagine our sisters and mothers to go to Maurya Complex after 10 pm? I, here in Hyderabad, use to roam all across the city with my wife late night without any fear of getting looted, molested or killed. Can, anyone, even living from childhood in Bihar, dare to go that way? The answer would be no. It’s not that crime is not here, most cases of Naxalite movement and terrorist activities happen here but they don’t touch the common people life normally.
Now, the turn of our dear so-called GARIB FRIENDS politicians. The more we talk about them, the more we feel ashamed of ourselves. I mean, I couldn’t understand, how resignations of 20 MPs from Bihar would help the Bihar cause in Maharashtra? Lalu seems to be anxious to create political turbulence in Bihar. I must say one more thing here, For us Biharis, Chhath is the most pious thing of life and those who have played and are playing dirty politics over this puja, would be punished hard by Chhath Maiyya.
If at all Bihar has to see a rising sun of development in next 30 years, the people of Bihar have to learn the tough lesson of being disciplined and being patient. After all, when we go outside Bihar, we are disciplined and face all the problems without shouting much, why can’t we do it here? Good work requires sacrifice to show its results and people of Bihar have to do it if at all they have to earn any respect from outside. I myself keep fighting with locals here for the respect of Bihar but inside I feel, suppose, they plan to come to Bihar for a short visit, would I be able to provide them that sense of security while they are here? Let’s work for that.
Anyways, let’s hope for the best. The current situation of Bihar can promise only one thing, that, we would improve. - Ravish Kumar - Nov. 9, 2008
