Arushis and Inhuman Beastly, Honour Killing

Being a Noida-resident has become a disadvantage. I was shocked when Alok from Vaidyanathhdham, Jashidih in Jharkhand, called me last week and told that he was watching news of Noida where a girl has been murdered. I expressed my inability to throw any light on it. Over the last few days, I would not have avoided to hear about Arushi episode even if I wanted. Every news channel has been making it as major news.

But who is the murderer? All circumstantial evidences point toward the doctor dad. But even if he or his doctor wife didn’t directly kill the two, how can parents sleeping in a room on the same floor and living together disown the responsibility? Why wouldn’t they be behind bar? Can the parent deny that they, their relational behaviour, and their lifestyle are the reasons behind this murder? How can the parent neglect their child so blatantly for the sake of career? And if they have gone that western, why should they resort to honor killing? How can the doctor mother forgive herself, as she failed to do the duty of a mother? Should we treat the case as a destiny or abrasions because of the changing social values and priority?

I have a major complain with the national media. Is this local news from Noida is of national importance? Be it Arushi case or that about Nithari, similar incidents are happening all over the country. Why should the media make Noida earn a bad image of a township not worth living?

Interestingly, the police officers are enjoying their interactions with media, particularly TV channels. Cops try to behave and present themselves nothing less than politicians while answering press conferences that are beamed throughout the country.

Will Noida be off the national channels?

At 9PM PS: I watched Gurudarshan Singh, IG Meerut Zone revealing that Arushi was brutally murdered by her father and that the doctor has been arrested. It was a very poor press conference, where the IG kept on taking some another name for Arushi. It was perhaps a hurridly called press conference to minimize the people’s poor impression of the police. It didn’t answer some obvious question. But more surprisingly, the mother who gave birth to Arushi remained untouched aand uncovered. Is that the face of today’s educated women who wish equal rights? What should be a duty of a mother? Why couldn’t she stand for Arushi?
