ISP Infrastructure woes
Posted : December 30, 2004 at 12:31 pm [IST]

If you were wondering whatever happened to my “drishtikona” these past few days, well, suffice it to say that as much as I would like to think otherwise, the ISP infrastructure in this part of the world (Noida, India) is really not something to be proud of.
I had been using a seperate phone line from BSNL for these past few months to dial into the Internet. Well, since I am planning an upcoming vacation in the next few months to go visit my children in US, I decided it was better that I disconnected this service sooner rather than later. Also, since I had a Reliance phone as well having paid a good Rs. 5000 to get it installed (including the set and charges for STD and ISD), I decided it was time to take the “infrastructure” laid by the Ambanis for a test-drive.
So, how did that go, you ask? Well, to put it bluntly, I have been in the “dark” (so to speak) for almost two days. The internet connection is as fickle as the political affiliations of our ministers. I know I have several comments that I have not replied to yet and I also have an entry that’s all ready to be thrown into the “blog ether”. I promise to get to them at the earliest provided the Ambanis give me a break..
Which brings me to this question: If you were living in Noida, were retired with limited income and wanted to have an Internet connection that gave you 3-4 hours of continuous uptime a day, what route would you take? What vendors would you chose? Any pointers from my esteemed and tech savvy readers would be much appreciated.
Note:
The intent behind this entry was mine. However, it was expressed in words by my son as I am still in the “dark”
