Obama, Obama, Obama

Perhaps I didn’t notice so great an excitement as it is with the Obama in India. News related to any Indian born American joining Obama’s transition team or his forthcoming administration was celebrated in India. Obama’s keeping a small figurine of Hanuman and even the word of praise for Sam Manekshaw was covered. His statement over Kashmir got criticism too. And last night almost all the Indian news channels had made special arrangement to direct telecast of the inauguration ceremony. Interest in US is on increase in India. Indians are copying everything that is American from slangs to management practices and even corporate frauds.

As I found during my US stay in September-November, most of the American Indians and NRIs liked Obama. Will Obama take some decisions particularly related to green card or citizenship that will help NRIs? Will Obama agree to the advices of Bill Gates and many others who suggest facilitating graduates from American universities working in many companies to get automatically the green cards? Perhaps that will be a little too much to expect. Obama is taking over in a critical time of America’s bottoming economy and highest unemployment. His priorities are different. Obama is to work hard to show some improving conditions and that too fast enough.

The story of Obama is perhaps the most inspiring for every youth in present time. But as old man I keep appreciating and adoring his love for his family. Perhaps, his upbringing with the grandparent away from his own parents may be one reason. The American system of electing the president does not require huge number of years in politics and administrations. Sometimes it appears to be risky for the great nation with possibility of consequences extending globally. However, it all depends on selecting the right persons to advise and implement, and US has no dirt of them. The best part of Obama’s approach till date is inclusion of the people from all camps including the opposition. I wish Indian politicians could learn that.

However, while watching the proceeding I liked two things the most, the delivery of inaugural speech that might have been written by others and the poem ‘praise song‘. I did also like Obama using the full name including Hussein and mention of all religions including Hindu.

Let God and the people make Obama the most successful president in action.
